Get up close to Tahoe’s history and culture with the featured exhibits at the Gatekeeper’s Museum in Tahoe City. Opening for the season on April 2, 2025, the Gatekeeper’s Museum is the only cultural heritage and history museum in the North Lake Tahoe area.
Tahoe’s Gilded Age of Fashion April 2, 2025 - October 31, 2025 Experience exquisite dresses, including a rare 1880 Bliss Family dress made by the finest dry goods distributer Darlington, Runk & Co., swimsuits, shoes, accessories and even fine china from a time of great economic and social change in the United States, marked by conspicuous consumption and industrialization. Learn how Lake Tahoe served as a backdrop for the Gilded Age of fashion in this unique exhibition.
NEW: Revolving Basket Displays April 2-October 31, 2025 This year, the Marian Steinbach Native American Basket Gallery received an upgrade with two new glass cases specifically meant to showcase never before displayed baskets, new accessions and Native American artifacts. Take advantage of this rare opportunity to view never before displayed baskets and artifacts from the archives, thanks to the generosity of the Davis family.
Tahoe Dogs April 2, 2025- October 31, 2025 Celebrate our beloved fur-ever friends and their history in Tahoe dating back to the early 20th century. This community exhibit features video clips of local dogs in their Tahoe element along with information on working dogs and the canine companions of characters in history like Snowshoe Thompson and Harry Johansson. Watch Heidi the Dachshund win 3rd place at the Pee Wee dog sled races with her custom sled in 1962 in this fun-filled exhibit.
