St. Mathew's Passion and Messiah | An Easter Celebration with Tahoe Philharmonic
Sunday, April 20, 2025 (4:00 PM - 6:00 PM) (PDT)
Description
For this very special Easter Sunday concert, the Tahoe Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus will present two of the most profound spiritual masterpieces: Bach's St. Matthew Passion and Handel's Messiah.
Johann Sebastian Bach’s St. Matthew Passion is one of the greatest masterpieces of sacred choral music. Written in 1727 for Good Friday services in Leipzig, this monumental work tells the story of Christ’s betrayal, trial, and crucifixion, based on the Gospel of Matthew. This concert will feature a shortened version of The Passion in the first half.
Selections from Handel's Messiah continue the story in the second half, portraying Christ’s triumphant resurrection. Audience favorites include "Surely He Hath Borne Our Griefs," "All We Like Sheep Have Gone Astray," and “Why do the Nations so Furiously Rage Together .” The performance builds to a powerful conclusion with "The Trumpet Shall Sound" and the iconic "Hallelujah."
The Tahoe Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus proudly presents St. Matthew and Handel's Messiah Passion during Holy Week, offering audiences a moving and immersive journey through this timeless work of devotion and redemption.
