Bus Driver I-II (Tahoe Area)

Tahoe Area Regional Transit (TART) is accepting applications for permanent full-time, permanent part-time, and temporary/extra-help assignments, offering candidates flexibility. We have openings at the entry and journey level. Applicants who are hired as temporary/extra-help may be eligible to transition to permanent status. Permanent employees receive benefits including health care, paid time off, paid holidays, and retirement through CalPERS, the largest retirement system in the country.

Permanent positions in this classification are eligible for a signing bonus of up to $2,000. Please go to the job postings for details.

Tahoe Bus Driver positions are eligible for salary plus up to an additional $1,100 per month Tahoe Branch Assignment Premium for employees who are permanently assigned to a position located in the North Lake Tahoe Area.

Minimum Qualifications

Bus Driver I Experience: None required, we will train you!

Bus Driver II Experience: One year of responsible paid driving experience involving the carrying of passengers or six months of training as a Bus Driver I in a Placer County transit system.


Possession of a valid Class A or B driver's license with passenger endorsements and no air brake restrictions. Proof of adequate vehicle insurance and medical clearance may also be required.


Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Verification of Transit Training (VTT) certificate issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles or the equivalent training to operate a public transit vehicle in passenger service within 90 (ninety) days of employment.
